Well, Giuseppe Esposito was the first well-known Mafia member to emigrate to the U.S. He was with other people from Sicily and they fled to New York. There were all different types of gang-related activity that started coming to the U.S as early as the 1900s. There were two main groups in the Italian mafia at the time one was Joseph Masseria who controlled the groups which eventually ended up sparking the Castellammarese War. In 1928 it started then ended in 1931. What he was trying to do was to control organized crime across the country and rule over them. Eventually, he was killed by “Lucky” Luciano.
